I had a dad who read to me.
Who are your favorite fictional fathers?
Off the top of my head, I think of Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. What about Hobie in The Goldfinch? I confess I cried when he took in Theo. There's Harry Potter's father and his multiple father figures. With Cormac McCarthy on our minds, his book The Road is all about The Man and his relationship to The Boy. One of my father's favorite books to read to me was Pinocchio whose inventor Geppetto longed for a son (though he got more than he bargained for).
What about you?
Speaking of Parenthood, we are honored and thrilled that Stacey Powells will be joining us at the book festival this year with her new book Empty Cupboards which is getting rave reviews and lots of appreciative comments from readers.
There are also rumors of a Memoir Workshop, so let us know if you are interested.
And Christopher Platt is coming back!
A perennial favorite, Chris will talk about recent books that he recommends.
DO NOT MISS THIS TALK because it will save you hours of book hunting.
Note this year, we are starting the event a little later, so Chris will open the festival at 11 a.m.
Can you help?
The book festival is looking for volunteers. We'd love to have you.
